The most attractive and convenient hotel in Janjangbureh, Bird Safari Camp, has re-opened after a 4 month closure. Bird Safari Camp, has a reputation for being the most popular camp particularly for boat trips and bird watching.
In an interview with this reporter the manager of the camp, Mr. Alfusainey Barry, said Bird Safari Camp has come back to normal again and in fact is now in a stronger position than it was before the closure.
According to Mr. Barry the closure was to allow for renovations to be carried out on the camp. Since its inception in 1997 the camp, which was founded by Mr. Steve Jones an English man and Mr. Alhajie Bittaye a Gambian, has made an enormous contribution to the communities of Janjanbureh, Lamin Koto and Farabo.
Highlighting some of the achievements of the camp Mr. Barry said that over 200 students at Armitage School benefited from scholarships from the LEON Trust, adding that 20 students are directly sponsored by the camp.
He further disclosed that the camp provides jobs in the locality and, in doing so, helps tackle the scourge of youth unemployment. Most of those employed at the camp hail from the villages of Janjanbureh, Lamin Koto and Farabo. He encouraged all the members of these communities to see the camp as theirs and support it as an investment in development.
