21 would-be-migrants remanded

Principal Magistrate Moses Richards of the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday remanded 21 would-be migrants, who were recently deported from Spain and the Canary Islands.

The 21 accused young men who are standing trial for unlawfully acting in a manner that is likely to breach the peace in public place, are also charged for unlawful assembly without any reasonable occasion and provoking President Jammeh, by using abusive language against him, which would have caused the breach of peace on July 24 2007, at Westfeild  Junction.

When the chargesheet was read to them, they all pleaded not guilty.

At that juncture, Principal Magistrate Richards adjourned the case to August 22, 2007, for the trial to continue.

The names of the accused persons are-Kalifa Ceesay, Ousainou Huma, Yaya Darboe, Ousubi Saho, Haruna Tarawally, Baba Jabbie, Kawsu Drammeh, Abdourahman Huma, Alasan Tarawally, Sulayman Sillah, Abdoulie Bah, Sanna Camara, Buba Jammeh, Musu Jawara, Muhammed Sillah, Mansur Bah, Abdourahman Jallow and Amat Bah.

Magistrate Richards granted a self-bail to Haruna Tarawally to the sum of D5,000, due to his health condition.

The case continues on Tuesday August 21, 2007.
