Policeman in Court for Receiving Bribe

A policeman was lately arraigned before a magistrates’ court in the Kanifing municipality for allegedly violating the very law that he was expected to safeguard.

Officer Lamin Manda Fatty was formally charged for receiving CFA 200,000 from a certain Momodou Faye in Kotu in contravention of Section 16(A) of the Criminal Code.
He was also charged with dereliction of official duty contrary to Section 193 of the Criminal Code, Vol. III of the Laws of The Gambia.

According to the first prosecution witness, Cherno Sey, he and two other people were involved in a passport and visa scam and that when their sordid deed was discovered by officer Fatty, they offered him the CFA 200,000 to conceal the matter.

The case resumes October 23 for continuation.
