Magistrate Pa Harry Jammeh of the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court, on Tuesday, convicted and sentenced Amadou Saidy of Serrekunda to three years mandatory jail term with hard labour for stealing a mobile phone belonging to one Fatou Jammeh.

When the charge sheet was read to him, Amadou pleaded guilty and begged the court to temper justice with mercy.
He further told the court to consider his status as father, adding that he was a first time offender.

The said incident took place on 27 May, 2007 at around 6:45am-7am, while Fatou Jammeh was on her way to the Serrekunda Market from Mile 7. Amadou then appeared behind her and continued to pursue her for her belongings. According to the facts, Amadou eventually succeeded in snatching away her mobile phone.

However, Amadou ran out of luck, when terrified Fatou screamed out for neighbours help. Amadou Saidy was then apprehended and taken to the Kanifing Police Station, where he was charged.
