Magistrate Pa Harry Jammeh of the Kainfing Magistrates’ Court, yesterday convicted and jailed Azziz Tamba, former APRC Assistant Deputy Youth Mobilser, Mustapha Bojang and Famara Colley to a mandatory jail term of 14 years each, with hard labour.

The three were dragged to court charged on two counts, namely conspiracy to commit a felony and stealing, contrary to the Laws of The Gambia.

Delivering his judgement in a crowded court, Magistrate Jammeh said: “The accused persons suffer from a desire to showcase their new found prestigious status in society. In the figure of adult, the accused have behaved like minors who felt that they have laid hands on a gold mine. The name President Jammeh and the name Kanilai Farm provided you with the password to have access to the finances of the farm. This is the greatest act of betrayal.”

Magistrate Jammeh then added that ‘the accused went on extravagant journey of spending the money of the Kanilai Farms without keeping proper records ’.

In his plea, Aiz Tamba informed the court that he is already serving another sentence, and therefore urged the court to temper justice with mercy.

For Mustapha Bojang, he told the court that her mother is sick and she is on a life-supporting machine. “Free me,” he pleaded.

Mr. Famara Colley, on his part, said: “Any moment from now on, my wife will deliver and also am a family man”

Despite their pleas, the trio were sentenced by Magistrate Jammeh to a mandatory jail term of 14 years each, with hard labour. Both sentences will run consecutively.
