Thursday, June 21, 2007

Badou Conteh, a private legal lawyer, yesterday informed the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court that he would not be able to represent Tabara Samba, the woman who was alleged to have killed her husband, Ousman Nyan, by pouring hot boiled oil on him while sleeping in Old Jeshwang.

Reading a letter in front of the court presided over by Magistrate Pa Harry Jammeh, Mr. Conteh said the deceased (Ousman Nyan) was a very close friend and therefore he cannot represent the accused Tabara Samba in this matter pending before the judiciary.

Lawyer Conteh further informed the court that during the numerous condolences visits he made to the family of the deceased, he was vividly informed of the circumstances that led to the death of Ebrima Nyan.

“I cannot be in quiet mourning for my close and dear friend and at the same time be expected to defend a person accused of killing him”, he told the court.

It could be recalled that some time ago, Momodou Musa Drammeh, counsel for Tabara Samba, withdrew his representation and since then she’s without a counsel.

Presiding Magistrate then adjourned the case to 4th July 2007 for continuation.
