Man in Trouble for Stealing, giving false information

Wednesday, August 22, 2007

One Lamin Ceesay was recently arraigned before Principal Magistrate Moses Richards of the Kanifing Magistrate’s Court on a two-count charge of stealing and giving false information to the police.

He is alleged to have stolen in December 2006 a four wheel drive (Pajero) with registration number BJL 4450 D. The car belongs to Mr. and Mrs. David Cluck, both British citizens, and is valued at one hundred and ninety-five thousand dalasis.

He is also alleged to have told the police that the car was his, which led the police to retrieve it from the British couple. But it turned out that the piece of information was false.

The accused however insisted that the British couple had given him the car when he worked for them as site supervisor during the building of their house. He added that the car was his, as it was registered in his name.

He was granted bail in the sum of two hundred thousand dalasis with sureties who met the bail condition.

Full hearing will continue on 27 September 2007.
