Thursday, August 23, 2007

Muhammad Lamin Koroma, a plaintiff yesterday, filed a law suit against Duwa Jatta, Administrative Director of the Kanifing Municipal Council (KMC) and former Deputy Permanent Secretary at the Department of State for Youth, Sports and Religious Affairs.

Muhammad Lamin Koroma sought for a redress on the transfer of the ownership of a land as contained in their previous agreement.

Koroma told the court that he gave D3,000 to Duwa Jatta in 2002, for a plot of land (size 20 X 20) at Jalamba in Brikama.

At the court, Jatta admitted receiving the money. However, he disclosed that the money was meant for the sale agreement and promised to help secure a land for the plaintiff at Jalamba.

However, it was then revealed that Jatta’s properties were confiscated by the state, which froze the execution of the agreement.

Principal Magistrate Moses Richards, who presided over the case ruled that D3,000 be returned to Mr. Muhammad Lamin Koroma, with 35 per cent interest for a period of 5 years, 4 per cent interest and D1,500 to the defendant within 14 days, after judgement.
