The People Against Injustice (PAIN) in conjunction with Save Darfur Coalition and the Globe for Darfur recently organized a news conference at Fr. Farell Memorial Hall in Kanifing to highlight the humanitarian crisis in Darfur.

According to Shaka Ceesay, Director of PAIN, the press conference was conceived and organized to highlight the humanitarian crisis in the war-torn southern Sudanese region.

He pointed out that it’s germane for efforts to be galvanized towards finding a lasting solution to the crisis in Darfur.

He expressed PAIN’s readiness to work in tandem with the Government of The Gambia and other relevant bodies to ensure an end to the armed conflict in Darfur.

The Secretary General of PAIN, Mr. Yusupha Gassama, disclosed that up to 400,000 people had died in Darfur since 2003, more than 2.5 million people displaced and over 200,000 living in refugee camps in the neighbouring Chad.

He stated that as many as one million civilians could die in Darfur thanks to food shortage and diseases.
