Africell disburses D50,000 to clubs

One of the country’s leading GSM service providers, Africell, on Friday disbursed D50,000 among 20 nawettan football clubs in the Greater Banjul Area at a presentation ceremony at the company’s headquarters along Kairaba Avenue. Each of the clubs from Banjul, Ebo Town, Kotu East, Sunchu Alhagie, Madiana and Wullingkama villages, received D2,500. 

Speaking at the presentation ceremony, Papa Leigh, Sales Manager of Africell said, the donation manifested his company’s commitment to the development of Gambian youths through sports.

Mr Leigh informed the ceremony that Africell has been assisting youths in not only on sports but in other important sectors, such as education.
Mehieddiene Mackkoui, Managing Director of Africell, assured them his company’s continuous commitment to the development of sports in the country.

Receiving the gesture on behalf of the beneficiaries, Sheikh Omar Faye, Secretary of State for Youth, Sports and Religious Affairs, said the gesture could not have come at a better moment than this, saying that his department has seen an increase in the number of nawettan competitions.

Secretary of State Faye commended Africell for its assistance to the development of young people and then called on other institutions to emulate its contribution.

In a related development, the company disbursed D80,000 worth of football strips to 10 teams across the country.
