Global Reach Network, an international charity, in their strong commitment and resolve to reach out to the less opportune in the society, last Friday presented a cheque of twenty thousand dalasis (D20,000) to the St. John’s school for the Deaf, at a presentation ceremony held at the school premises on MDI road. The cheque presented was meant to sponsor ten most needy students in the school.

Established in 2004, by two Cameroonian brothers (Ebenezer N Essoka and T.N. Victor Essoka), the Foundation seeks, among other things, to assist in improving local standards.

Presenting the cheque on behalf of the Foundation, Ebenezer N Essoka, founding member and Chairman of the Board of Trustees, said his foundation’s present focus is on The Gambia, and most notably, the St. John’s School for the Deaf.

He noted that the school is one of its kind in the Country where deaf students are expose to both academic and vocational subjects such as metal work, welding, fabrication, carpentry, typing, tailoring, home management, and arts & craft at a very early stage, and applies a teaching methods through the use of sign languages.

Chairman Essoka elucidated that his Foundation is a well structured organization, bound to help deprived communities. He disclosed that due to challenges faced by the less opportune in societies, his Foundation has set up three main Funds namely; The Essoka Disso Education Fund, Essoka Disso Health Fund as well as Essoka Disso Leadership Fund.

Chairman Essoka finally expressed hope that more gesture of this nature are in the pipeline.

Recieving the gesture on behalf of the beneficiaries, Daniel Mendy, Principal of the school expressed gratitude to the donors for such a humanitarian gesture. He noted that the gesture could not have come at a better moment than now when some parents often found it difficult to make ends meet for their deaf students. He expressed hope that the gesture will go a long way in addressing such educational constraints.
