The Taiwanese Embassy in The Gambia is warming up for this Saturday’s Operation Clean the Nation (ONC), which it intends to boost with the provision of cash prizes for best performing groups who will take part in the nationwide exercise.
The event is being organised in collaboration with the Department of State for Forestry and Environment and aims at stemming the incidence of malaria, which is usually prevalent during the rainy season.
The Taiwanese Embassy welcomed the participation of the public, noting that participants would be grouped into three to compete for the cash prizes, which are tagged as ‘garbage prizes’.
According to a dispatch, the exercise will commence at the Denton Bridge, where the official opening would be held. The secretary of state for Forestry and Environment, Mr Kotu Cham, the mayor of Kanifing Municipal Council and the Taiwanese ambassador, Richard Shih, are expected to preside over the activity.
As part of the activity, the embassy disclosed that 100 T-shirts would be provided, as well as food and water. The exercise would also improve the local scenery, especially along the highway.
