Principal Magistrate Buba Jawo of the Kanifing Magistrates Court, has stressed that his court will not make any unnecessary adjournment in the absence of litigants, without any tangible reasons.
Principal Magistrate Jawo issued this warning on Wednesday, after a series of adjournment in the court, due to the absence of litigants, as well as their counsel.
He revealed that the court is not obliged to notify anybody to come to court once a sermon is issued.
“Any litigant who absent themselves from coming to the court without presenting any tangible reasons would be held liable for breach of recognition and the court may be forced to carry on with the case (s) and pass judgements even in absentia,” the magistrate warned, adding that the court would, under no circumstances, adjourned cases unless valid reasons are advanced.
Principal Magistrate Jawo observed that litigants, especially accused persons are “notorious” for such acts and noted that such occurrences would not be condoned by his court.
“Anytime they do not come to court, we will carry on with the cases and anything that happens, is their problem,” he reiterated.
