One Alasan Bah, a Guinean, last Friday, appeared before the Kanifing Magistrates Court, presided over by magistrate Sagarr Jahateh on charges of stealing a motor vehicle contrary to section 255 of the criminal code, laws of The Gambia.
According to particulars of the offence, Alasan Bah, on December 22, 2008, at Kairaba Avenue in the Kanifing municipality, did steal a motor vehicle, registration number BJL 6420C, valued at D125, 000, being property of one Pocky Ghagehanda.
The accused told the court that he could only understand Fula language as he had arrived in the country just ten months back. But Magistrate Jahateh told the court that the Fula interpreter was not in court, and therefore the case had to be adjourned to Monday, January 26. She then ordered that the accused be remanded in custody. Police prosecutor, First Class 319 Jobe, stood in for the IGP.
