Monday, January 19, 2009
ASP Omar Barry of the Gambia Police Force, GPF, yesterday testified in the ongoing trial of one Gibril King before the Kanifing Magistrates Court.

Testifying before Magistrate Sagarr Jahateh, ASP Omar Barry informed the court that he is a credit officer. He added that on September 3, 2008, he was sitting at an immigration check post located in New Jeshwang when someone came to them to report that somebody had been robbed in a nearby street.

ASP Barry further told the court that he himself, being the senior man on the ground then instructed two immigration officers, Pa Malick Gibba and Omar Sanneh, to visit the scene. According to him, the two officers went to the scene and arrested the accused (Gibril). He added that they came back with the accused and the complainant, Momodou Bailo Baldeh, who had sustained some injuries.

He told the court that the complainant was later taken for a medical check-up in a nearby health centre. At that juncture, the police prosecutor, Inspector Fadera applied for the case to be adjourned in order for him to bring his next witness. Magistrate Sagarr Jahateh granted the application and adjourned the case to February 2.  She also sent Gibril King back to remand.
