Wednesday, February 6, 2008

An Italian national has been remanded at the State Central Prison at Mile II, in connection with a stolen vehicle said to be the property of Kanilai Farm.

Domenico Fedeli, 49, was remanded last week Monday by Principal Magistrate BY Camara of the Banjul Magistrates Court, after he failed to meet the bail conditions of two landed properties and D200,000.

Mr Fedeli was arrested and charged for allegedly stealing a vehicle belonging to the Kanilai Farm.

According to the prosecution, Mr Fedeli, on 10th January 2008, stole a motor vehicle (registration number BJL 4063B)  at the License Department of the Gambia Police Force Headquarters.

However, the accused has denied the charge preferred against him.

It could be recalled that Lt. Bakary Camara, a senior presidential bodyguard, Manlafi Sanyang, head of Vehicles Logistics Unit at State House, and Momodou Lamin Sonko, alias Boto, are being detained at the State Central Prisons in connection with the same stolen vehicle. The trio were charged with theft, conspiracy to commit felony and economic crime.

Meanwhile, Momodou Lamin Sonko, who was remanded last week, alongside the two senior State House security, was spotted yesterday afternoon in Banjul, driving past the Gambia National Museum towards the July 22nd Square.
