Da Fugitivez, a five-man musical ensemble, was shot into prominence in 1997 and despite the group’s seemingly inertia and withdrawal into the wilderness, reports are that they’re still causing sensations, though in faraway Europe.
Notwithstanding their status in The Gambia as almost a forgotten group after been inducted into the world of fame and popularity some years ago, the ensemble has already signed a three-year contract with arguably the largest and the most popular publishing company in Sweden and also with Double Dogg , a record label.
‘’We are now concentrating on singles and our first single was successful and the clip already recorded .We are making waves internationally and still ‘digitally’popular. We caused sensations in Austria and South Africa and we’re poised to break new grounds,’’ said Tijan Jabang aka Tassman.
The Kartong-born Tijan Jabang, who’s currently in the country, pointed out that for The Gambian music industry to make a headway and to yield the desired results, there must be protection against piracy.
“People have to pay for music as they pay for computers and computer accessories. Music has a potential of creating job opportunities, hence the need for support from all quarters,” he added.
