KAC donates to NBR fire victims

Kerewan Area Council (KAC) recently donated three bags of rice, on behalf of the ‘Banding Bung Association’ (a group of Bandibunkas based in France), and another 3 bales of second-hand clothing to the victims of the recently fire outbreak in Njonen Village in Central Bandibou District.

The victims, Marie Jaw, Pateh Jawo and Banno Jawo, lost a total cash of D11, 000, domestic livestocks, household belongings, building materials, among others.

Presenting the gifts to the victims, Mr. Tamba Kinteh, Chief Executive Officer of Kerewan Area Council, expressed his deepest sorrow and sadness about the incident and pray that this never re-occur again.

According to him, the actual cause of the fire is still not known and then urged the community to be careful and vigilan at all times. He added that in this particular fire disaster, about 18 houses were burnt down. CEO Kinteh further emphasized that his council could have done more than this, but due to the lack of resources, they could not do more.

“I therefore call on philantropists, NGOs, both public and private sector organisations to come forward and support the needy people, especially in times of difficulty by contributing directly to those affected or through the National Council for Disaster Relief Fund,” he said.

In receiving the items, Musa Bah, on behalf of the victims, thanked Kerewan Area Council for their timely intervention, adding that as the nearest public station, KAC has demonstrated its ability and capabilities to be able to respond to the needy people whenever the need arises.

Malick John, Alkalo of the village appealed to the council to make adequate and reliable source of water.

The presentation ceremony was also witnessed by Samba Gagigo, Chairman of KAC, Vice-Chairman, KAC, districts chiefs, and ward councilors, among others.
