Nema benefits from Poultry farming

Poultry farming has registered major success in the village of Kiang Nema in the Lower River Region, thus generating a major income to farmers in the village. The poultry farm which came into existence as a community based initiative in 2001 by the Nema Kaira Kaffo is now supplying hotels.

Speaking to the Daily Observer, Mama Jassey Jawara, Chairperson of the Kaffoo said, the idea to start poultry farming started in 2001 with the objective of creating income for the development of the village and since then they were able to build a nursery school. According to Jawara, the income generated from the poultry is also use to provide credit facilities to villagers, adding that plans are underway to build midwifery centre for women of the village.

He then called on the government, NGOs and the philanthropists to assist them in expanding the poultry farm into a large venture.
