Theft at Sarge’s Hotel

A theft incident involving a cheque for 1557 Pound Sterling was leaked at the Sarge’s Hotel on Tuesday, following police investigation of the suspects, the Daily Observer can reveal.

The Accountant, Ebrima Sowe and Receptionist Manager, Sheriff Conteh were nabbed by the personnel of the Gambia Police Force, Kotu station, after the cheque went missing.

Ardy Sarge, Proprietor of Sarge’s Hotel, who was reportedly away for about four weeks, then lodged a complaint with the police about the missing cheque.

Confirming this story to the Daily Observer, Mr. Sarge said the Back-list Bank cheque in question was paid to Ebrima Sowe, the Accountant in his absent. “These two people then took the cheque and sold it at Boule Forex Bureau de Change and later shared the money. Boule Forex Bureau de Change also sold it to another dealer, who called me to ask whether I was aware of the said cheque, as usually I sell cheques myself. The matter was followed and we later discovered that these two guys sold the cheque and shared the money,” he explained.

Mr. Sarge further disclosed that, following police investigations, D23,000 plus 140 Pound Sterling was recovered from Sheriff Conteh, the Receptionist Manager and D32,500 was also recovered from Ebrima Sowe, the Accountant.

At the time of going to press, the Daily Observer reliably learnt that the police are also under vigorous pursue on the clues surrounding the theft.

Reports also indicated that, the police are also investigating furthermore, on whether there are other cheques missing in the absence of Mr. Sarge.
