All days are not equal in the lives of men. Some are marveled for their religious splendors, while others are revered for their social and political stupors.
For Abdou Aziz Jarjue and Ellen Jankey Dacosta-Jarjue, Friday 28 December transcends beyond all these. It occupies an important position in their hearts and indeed in the ones of those who attended this programme at the Terranga Beach Hotel for one simple reason; it was the day two young couple held their wedding party in grand style.
Naturally every programme has its striking peculiarities and consummate moments and this wedding party was not without one. It had the fanfare and accompanying gusto that blisters such programmes. Apart from the thrilling, ecstatic and fascinating environment, it was also one of merry making. No wonder, it was tagged by many as the wedding party of the year.
The extraordinary evening was also propped up by the attendance of men of timber and caliber, among them Father Anthony Gabbis and Father Jarjue.
In his opening remarks, Dodou Joof, MC of the evening wished the couple a happy marriage and beautiful off-spring. This was retreated by speaker after speaker who took to the podium to speak at the occasion. Shortly afterwards, he invited the bride and groom to cut the wedding cake which the bridegroom did amidst frenetic cheers from the elated audience and his bride.
On the other side of events, the father and mother of the bride provided the fascinating matrix of the day. To the surprise of all, or better still to the bemusement of everyone Mr. Andrew Dacosta with his wife, Amie Njie Dacosta, rocked the party boat by taking on stage to dance. I wish you saw him moving from one position to the other amidst the riotous pachanga music. I bet had you seen him you would have mistaken him for the inventor of pachanga.
In the midst of the fanfare and hullabaloo, Society caught up with friends and close associates of the bride and bride-groom to get their impressions on the day. Raphael Elijah Mendy has been close to the Dacosta Family for many years. His close associating with them has unveiled to him how upright they are. "It’s a family that every youngman wants to marry from because it is a family of upright values" he remarked.
"This joy" he continued "is the signifance of the day." "I wish that this joy will replicate in their marriage home." Mr. Mendy advised all bachelors to get married. This according to him will help them plan their lives better and prevent them from engaging in ungodly things.
Therese Jatta grew up with the bride. They celebrated their first Communions and Confirmations together. She could not be happier that seeing her long time friend and colleague getting married. She expressed delight in the marriage and described it as the first to take place in the Dacosta family. She also described the bride-groom as a calm and nice man.
For his part, the Mr. Abdou Aziz Jarjue was philosophical. He summarized his impressions about the day in few words. "I am the happiest man in the world. There are two very important days in everybody’s life. They are the day you get married and the day you die. When its time for you to get married, you have to make sure that you call friends and relatives to come and enjoy with you. And while you live, you should also make sure that you do good so that when you die people will come and pay their last respects to you."
He provided an insight into how he met his wife. According to him, he met her in a bank and was impressed with her. He wasted no time in making his intentions known to her. He later won her heart and consequently went ahead to marry her. He also had complementary words for his wife whom he described as a good and respectable woman.
Ellen Jarjue also had appreciations for her husband.
She is happy that she has finally found the man of her life. She described him as loyal, trustworthy and a caring man. She thanked all those who attended the party.
And for married people she had these philosophical clinchers. "Trust and faith is the key to marriage. With them every marriage home will be happy and lively."
The programme could have only been successful. Aunty Maria’s unflinching participation and that of the Dacosta boys no doubt reflected in the success of the event. A big pat on their backs for a job well done.
All in all it was a lively evening at the Terranga Beach Hotel. There was enough food and drinks for everyone. To round the exhilarating evening it was the evening of the evenings. Society and the observer family wish the couple a happy marriage life in abundance.
