A Gambian Association in Greater Kasisus City in the United States of America, recently donated eight cartons of shoes, shirts and trousers to Armitage Senior Secondary School, at a ceremony held in Kotu, Serrekunda.
Some of the Association’s members were graduates of the School.
Receiving the items, Ebrima Joof, Principal of Armitage Senior Secondary School, lauded the donation as relevant and timely. He disclosed that the items would be presented to the students as prizes, in a bid to boast their academic excellence. He then added: “This will help to promote academic excellence in the school,”
Mr. Joof thanked the association on behalf of the board, members of the Parent Teachers Association and students of the school, for their consideration and patriotism.
Mr. Joof used the occasion to call on other ex-students and Gambians in the diaspora to emulate the gesture.
A representative of the association told the gathering that the development of the country requires the full participation of all and sundry. She expressed that the gesture will be extended to other schools, pointing out that there are many other needy schools in the country.
She implored on parents to monitor the performance of their children in schools in order to contribute towards the development of the education sector. She then prayed to Allah to guide and protect the Gambian association in US.
