Thursday, April 26, 2007
Amadou Gai, Chairman of Niani Fishermen Association (NFA) has said that very soon they will start to train Gambian youth on fishing skills.

Speaking to the Daily Observer at the river side in Kuntaur Wharf Town, Mr Gai said at least 15 youth from selected areas within Niani are already prepared for the task. He stated that their target is basically the school drop- outs. He said “if the school drop-outs are skilled, their standard of living will be improved.”

According to him, they already bought several jackets, 20 fishing nets and other fishing gears from a loan obtained from Social Development Fund (SDF), through the Community Development Officer in Kuntaur.

For his part, Bukary Gaye, Community Development Officer, said the loan was meant to provide support for the association.

He then noted that the loan must be wisely used to enable them repay it back on time.
