Built at a tune of D4.5 million, Banutu Business College, a new business outfit, located in Lamin Village was on Saturday inaugurated at a ceremony held at the village.

In his inaugural speech, Michael Ba Banutu-Gomez, President of the institute and the founding member, said “it is with deep love, respect, appreciation, caring and concern that lead him and her wife to establish the business college”.

According to him, the best way to develop a country and nurture sustainability is by providing the citizens with quality education.

He added that his college’s goal is to develop socially responsible global leaders and managers who will enhance organisational performance for growth, accountability, self-determination and sustainable development of economies and societies in Africa and the world at large. “We are here to build partnership with the government, NGOs, non-profit agencies, and any other institution that believes in quality education,” he said.

He further noted that Banutu Business College library is equipped with new text books for students to use, to help them enhance their educational experience.

“It is indeed expensive to invest on quality education, but yet it is relevant for the country to have educational institutions, like this to help Gambians live a better life,” he added.

Mr. Gomez further revealed his college’s plan for the academic year 2008-2009. “Our plans are to enter the educational market and offer bachelors degree in all disciplines and by the academic year of 2009-2010, the college will offer Masters and Phd programmes.

He also revealed that plans are underway for the construction of a similar institution in Essau, North Bank Region.

Mbemba Bojang, Alkalo of Lamin Village, welcomed the construction of the institution in his village, describing it as commendable. He said that the government alone cannot do it all and then called on other citizens of Lamin to emulate Mr. Gomez.

Alkalo Bojang assured Mr. Gomez of his continuous support and that of the people of Lamin village.

The ceremony was attended by dignitaries, friends and families of Mr. Gomez and the community of Lamin.
