Mr. Babucarr Boye, the Permanent Secretary at the Department of State for Education, has underlined the significance of teacher training for enhanced education delivery.

He added that relevant training programmes for teachers are essential for quality and relevant education delivery.

Mr. Boye was speaking at the end of a week-long training programme for teachers from across the country.
The workshop on the theme "The Way Forward in Helping Gambia Children to Read With Understanding", held at Latrikunda and St. Therese’s upper basic schools, was organized with the support from the Government and World Bank at the tune of D7m.

According to him, students especially those in the lower grades find it difficult to read with understanding.
For his part, the President of Gambia Teachers’ Union, Mr. Omar Ndure, explained that the training would go a long way in enhancing the professionalism of teachers.
