Thursday, December 7, 2006
Since the appointment of Kebba Sanyang, former Principal Magistrate at the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court, as Secretary of State for Justice, the court is yet to have a replacement in the position of Principal Magistrate.
This situation has led to undue delay in most of the cases before the court.

Among such cases are those of Journalist Lamin Fatty which was set for hearing on 4th December 2006. The case could not proceed as the case is yet to be assigned to another magistrate.

Lamin Fatty, a reporter at The Independent newspaper, now closed, has been facing charges of publishing false information. The case is expected back in court on 19th December 2006.
