The Daily Observer was only able to get in touch with Bakary Sanyang, the Commissioner for Income Tax who said “Yes it is correct that am appointed as Commissioner for Customs. I felt happy and looking forward to working smoothly with my Staff.”
It could be recalled that The Gambia Revenue Authority was established by the government through an act of The National Assembly in 2004 to maximise government revenue by bringing the two revenue collecting agencies namely, Customs and Income Tax together as one body which is the GRA. The Authority which starts full operation last month is headed by a Commissioner General in the name of Momodou Kaba Tambajang, former Director General of Customs.
