Fatoumata Mendy-Sanyang, wife to 2nd Lieutinant Pharing Sanyang, fourth accused person in the foiled March 21 coup plot, has informed the court that after the arrest of her husband on 21 March 2006, she hadn't seen her husband until in May 2006, following a ruling by the High Court for family members of the accused be allowed access.
Mrs Sanyang informed the court that during her visit to her husband at State Central Prisions at Mile II, she saw injuries on her husband’s head, plaster on his neck, before discovering that he had also lost his tooth.
She said her husband gave her a plastic bag which, she later discovered at home was containing a military uniform, some dressing items. She said she then took materials to Lamin Mboge, Counsel for 2nd Lt Pharing Sanyang.
However, she revealed that Lamin Mboge later informed her about a theft at his office, which led to the loss of the bag and its contents.
Captain Yahya Darboe, 2nd accused person, earlier on, testified as a witness for the 4 accused person, 2nd Lt Pharing Sanyang. He said on 22 March 2006, whilst in his cell at the State Central Prisons, he saw 2nd Lt Sanyang through an opening in the wall with a plaster on his jaw. He said Bakary Warff Kujabi, a prison medic, treated him and plastered injuries on his head. According Cpt Darboe, 2nd Lt Sanyang informed him about his visit to RVTH to uproot his teeth.
Presiding Judge, Akomay Agim, then delivered a ruling on the ‘no case to answer submissions’ filed in by Ms Neneh Cham, Counsel for Abou Janha and Private Alagie Nying. Justice Agim ruled that the court found prima facie evidence of offence against the accused persons, connecting them to the offence filed in against them. He therefore, ruled that the trial on them should continue.
Meanwhile, Dr Emmanuel Bangbelu, Medical Officer at the Dental and Oral Surgion Unit of RVTH, presented a medical note pertaining to the treatment administered to 2nd Lt Pharing Sanyang, following a sermon by Counsel Mboge.
