Tuesday, April 3, 2007
Magistrate Pa Harry Jammeh of the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court, has discharged two of the six accused persons in the ongoing criminal case, involving a fuel theft at the American Embassy warehouse in Kanifing. The freed men were Omar Jagne and Lamin P Jammeh.

The discharge of the duo came following application by Police Prosecutor 870 Touray for them to be withdrawn from the case.

Asked by the presiding magistrate about the reason for their withdrawal, Prosecutor 870 Touray disclosed that he has received information from the investigating personnel that the two accused person had closed from duty at the time of the offence. He said those who were on duty were the first, second, fifth and the sixth accused persons.

At that juncture, Magistrate Jammeh then subsequently granted application for the two men to be freed.

The case was adjourned to April 11 for the prosecution to call in another witness.

The release of the duo has left the case with four other accused persons: Kebba Bojang, Bakary Jagne, Edrissa Sanyang and Lamin Gibba, who were alleged to have stolen about 700 litres of fuel at the American Embassy warehouse located at the Kanifing Industrial Estate. They have since pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against them.
