LK Boys Basketball team on Saturday defeated Old Hands side to clinch the coveted title staged in the memory of the late Pa Modou Sarr, a former basketball star.
LK Boys proved their superiority over their opponent with a 61-49 points score in fiercely competed final that was cheered by hundreds of sports enthusiasts at Serrekunda West Basketball lawn.
Old Hands played to their best ability but failed to march the pace of their opponents. As winners, LK Boys received a giant trophy that was sponsored by Mr Samba Faal, former SoS for Youth, Sports & Religious Affairs.
Speaking to Observer Sports shortly after the match, Dawda Sarr father of the deceased thanked all those who contributed in making the tournament a success.
He said such a tournament will admittedly make the family and friends of the deceased to remember him for his love towards the game.
Mam Essa Gaye, President of The Gambia Basketball Federation said the deceased is gone but his memory remained fresh in their minds. He described the deceased as a discipline and brilliant basketballer of his days . Gaye described this year’s tournament as the most competitive one and expressed hope that the momentum will continue in years to come.
