As Biko, Seaview Relegated

Real De Banjul bounced back yesterday by clinching the Gambia Football Association Division League Title, seven years after their lasts glory.

The one all draw against Bakau United at the Independence Stadium, was enough for Real De Banjul to climb on the podium after several years of struggle.

The draw gave Real De Banjul 33 points together with their arch rivals, Wallidan FC, who managed to beat Armed Forces 2-1 at the Serekunda West Mini Stadium but Real De Banjul top the table with goal different +9 against +6 for Wallidan.

It was a difficult moment for Real De Banjul team, officials and fans as the struggling Bakau United team surprise opened the scores in the 46th minute through Banko Susso.

Real De Banjul fought hard and Ebou Bojang rewarded their efforts in the 83rd minute with an equalising goal scored.

The draw also kept Bakau United in the first division.

In the other title race game at the Serekunda West Mini stadium, Wallidan’s victory over Armed Forces was not enough for them to clinch the title.

It was Armed Forces who first opened the scores in the 15th minute of the encounter through their captain, Modou Loum.

Amadou Gaye alias Arm Boy netted both goals for Wallidan in the 17th and 75th minutes respectively.

In Banjul, GPA’s hopes of retaining the title were dashed following their 1-0 defeat in the hands of Gamtel at the Banjul Mini Stadium better known as KG 5.

In the battle at the bottom of the table, the Bakau Giant, Steve Biko were relegated to the second division following their 1-0 defeat in the hands of Seaview at the Box Bar Mini Stadium in Brikama.

Despite collecting the three points, Seaview also would play in the second division next year.

Last year’s FA cup winners, Hawks drew goalless with Africell/ Sait Matty at the Serekunda East Mini Stadium.

The draw was also ok for Sait Matty to remain in the top flight.
