Flood Victims Supported

Monday, September 3, 2007

As efforts continue to be stepped up to ameliorate the sufferings of the flood victims in Sinchu Baliya and Nema Kunku, CCF Kinderhifswerk  in Germany recently made a handsome donation of materials worth over D40,000 to at least twenty victims of the recent flooding in the areas.

The donated items include 30 bags of rice, 19 bags of cement, 20 bales of clothing, detergents and corrugated sheets.

The donation was made through Mrs. Ellen Manneh, a CCF volunteer in The Gambia.

In her speech in a ceremony held at Sinchu Baliya clinic to hand over the materials, Mrs. Manneh asserted that CCF places special emphasis on children and that if parents are affected, their children would be also affected in one way or the other.

She pointed out that it would be hard to restore the impacts of the flood through the donated items but that the gesture was part of CCF’s contribution towards alleviating some of the problems of the flood victims.

For her part, the President of Degoo Association, Mrs. Kumba Barry, commended CCF for the assistance, recalling that CCF had also intervened to support the victims of last year’s flood in the areas.

Hon. Adama Cham of Kombo North thanked CFF for the ‘laudable’ gesture.

The vote of thanks was delivered, on behalf of the beneficiaries, by Ablie Mboob and the ceremony was attended by the Alkalolu of Sinchu and Nema as well as a cross-section of the two communities.
