In-service Training for Islamic Students Underway

A week-long in-service training course for over 70 participants from different schools in the country is underway at Al-Birr Islamic School in Sinchu Sorrie, Kombo North, Western Region.
The course, the 8th of its kind to be organized in the country by the Gambia Student Union in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia is funded by the World Assembly of Muslim Youth (WAMY).

In his welcoming remarks, the Principal of Al-Birr Islamic School, Mr. Muhammad Salieu Mahmoud Bah, expressed his school’s happiness in hosting the event and assured the participants of a successful stay in the school.

Addressing the opening ceremony on Sunday, the Guest of Honour, Sheikh Saja Fatty Alie Omar, President of the Gambia Islamic Union, thanked the World Islamic League in Saudi Arabia for building the Al-Birr Islamic School. He also commended the school for their hard work for the cause of Islam as well as the dedication to the religion.

Alie Omar also encouraged the students to always work harder in search of knowledge.
He finally advised them to take the training seriously.

Speaking earlier, president of the student union, Mr. Tayib Sarr, said that the course is meant to build capacities of their brothers and sisters in the country who do not have the opportunity to study abroad.
Sheikh Omar Khurais from the General Secretariat for Islamic and Arabic Studies in The Gambia, admonished the students to be patient and obedient in their quest to acquire knowledge.

Other speakers on the occasion include Alhaji Banding Drammeh, President of Gambia Supreme Islamic Council and Muhammed Sarr who deputised for the WAMY representative in The Gambia, Sheikh Kebba Landing Sanyang.

The ceremony was also graced by Imam Abdoulie Fatty of State House Mosque.
