Man bags D20,000 fine for stealing

One Lamin Darboe, was on Monday convicted and sentenced to a fine of D20,000, indefault to serve one year five months imprisonment, after pleading guilty of stealing. According to the particulars of offence on or about 16th August 2007, at Sukuta village in Kombo North, Western Region of the Republic of The Gambia, Lamin Darboe, stole from one Hamadi Mbye, the sum of D3,520, by gripping his hands with an unknown person, and then pulled out the said amount of money from his pockets.

Mr Darboe, who pleaded guilty of the offence, begged for the court to exercise mercy on him.

Magistrate Buba Jawo, in his ruling, put it to him that he had deprived the man of his property, and also put him into another engagement of reporting to the Police Station.


He then sentenced Mr Darboe to a fine of D20,000, in default to serve one year, five months in prison.

He finally ordered him to compensate the victim with another D5,000.

Corporal 510 stood in for the IGP.
