Brings State-of-the-art PA System and Coterie of Gadgets

On a visit to the smiling coast in 2004, a Belgian born sound engineer, Jacky Dhondt, was touched by the fact that the country was bereft of musical instruments and owing to this the music industry has been grossly undeveloped and untapped. However after a business talk with a Gambian pal, Lamin Njie, who himself is also a sound engineer of great repute, Mr Dhondt then decided to do something to address this unsatisfactory situation. Upon his return to Belgium he embarked upon a ground-breaking deal which gave birth to the ambitious project which became known to all Gambians  as Gambia Music Store.

He established the GMS store in 2005 through the support, encouragement, and local knowledge of his Gambian partner Lamin Njie. The GMS was originally located at Serekunda opposite NAWEC sub-station and was a mini store. Word of the superior quality and selection of instruments available, combined with a friendly and helpful approach to serving customers, meant that larger premises was soon required to house the successful business.

A suitable site was found on the Westfield- Brikama Highway where the pair opened a superstore, which now houses a vast range of musical instruments of impeccable quality and price. The store has all the latest gadgets from all over the world and would prove a mouth watering browsing experience for a musician of any nationality. As well as an extensive range of equipment for sale, Gambia Music Store also offers a wide range of equipment for rent. Among the items available are microphones, drum kits and both electric and acoustic guitars. The DJ or sound engineering is not ignored, however, as there is a vast selection of PA equipment available at the store along with lighting equipment, which would enliven the performance of any live act.

Realizing that they are increasingly building an enviable goodwill for their business and becoming more responsive to the needs of Gambian artists, GMS has lately gone the extra mile to bring into the country a state-of-the-art multi-million Dalasi PA system. This initiative is aimed at taking the live music industry in the country to the next level of sophistication and quality. And most importantly there is no bureaucracy when it comes to renting their equipment; hence Gambians need no longer journey to another country to hire high quality PA Systems.

Already preparations are underway for the grand official launch of this equipment and possibly on independence eve (17 February).  The public are urged to tighten their seatbelts and experience the full glory of this cutting edge technology for themselves. This event shall be anchored and coordinated by the godfather of Gambian show business, Azziz Willan of Africafriq promotion. The man is ready for a big bang! So miss it at your peril.

Even though GSM store is a success story, the founders yet believe that without the help of Glenn Roggeman of AED Rent Belgium, this project would not have been possible.  They therefore profoundly commended their collaborators in Belgium for their assistance over the years.

”We are out to inject a new lease of life into the Gambian entertainment industry, so we will never relent in our striving to meet the growing demand of our clientele”, Mr Dhondt , told this paper.

Adding  weight to Dhondt comment’s  Lamin Njie who is fast earning a reputation as one of Gambia s outstanding entrepreneurs, also informed The Point entertainment desk that in the not too distant future they have a surprise in store for anyone who would wish to see a new digital recording studio opened in The Gambia. He therefore appealed to all and sundry to patronize them as customers’ is their ultimate pride.
