The Gambia Football Association (GFA), in collaboration with sports committee of the Upper River Region, under the leadership of Mr. Furu Gomez, will organise a seven-day intermediate referee training course for referees in the region, scheduled for 3rd to 9th June, 2007.
The training course came barely one week after the successful completion of a 12-day intermediate course for football coaches at the FIFA Academy in Old Yundum.
Speaking to Observer Sports, Mr. Abdou Salam Jammeh, GFA/CAF Education Officer, said the education programme is organised to keep the referees in the region abreast of the laws of the game. He added that, the seven-day training would also cover areas, such as the philosophy of referees and most importantly the technical and practical applications of the laws of the game.
According to Mr. Jammeh, the Basse forum would be directed by Messrs Bai Jobe and Jeneh Faye, both retired FIFA referees and now CAF referees instructor for The Gambia. He added that another world class instructor, Mr. George, a Dutch based in The Gambia will also take part in the training programme.
30 personnel are expected to take part in the training, which is the second of its kind in the region.
