Saturday, October 25, 2008

Mark-Anthony Vinorkor and Samuel Tei Adano, reporter and photographer respectively of the state-owned newspaper, Daily Graphic, were on October 22, 2008 violently attacked by security personnel of the Tema Development Corporation (TDC).

Media Foundation for West Africa (MFWA)’s correspondent reported that the incident occurred at Community Four, where the two had gone to cover a demolition exercise by a combined team of TDC guards and police officers to rid the town of illegal structures.

Vinorkor told the MFWA correspondent that he was hit several times in the chest and slapped twice in the face for attempting to save Adano from further attacks from the guards. According to him, the guards punched him and seized his camera which they later damaged.

However, the commander of the guards has denied the attacks on the journalists. The Police in Tema, a town adjoining Accra, have since launched investigations into the matter.
