Gambia Play Niger Thursday

The Gambia National U-17 team, which left Banjul on Saturday morning for Abidjan to take part in the four nation U-17 tournament, arrived safe at the Abidjan International Airport on board of Slok Air International.

According to the President of Gambia Football Association (GFA), Seedy MB Kinteh, The Gambia would play their first match on Thursday August 9, 2007 against Niger.

Mr. Kinteh added that Burkina Faso stepped in for Cape Verde, who could not honour the invitation because they don’t have a National U-17 team.

GFA Boss added that the four nations to compete in the Abidjan tournament are Niger, The Gambia, Burkina Faso and the host Cote d’Ivoire.

“The tournament would be played in a league format and at the end of the round matches, the two top teams on the table would go to the final. “ Mr. Kinteh revealed.

It could be recalled that the Gambia team to Abidjan is made of 18 players coached by the Tarik, the Egyptian technical assistant and assisted by Ebrima Jallow alias EB, former Bakau United and Seaview coach.
