Ansumana Manneh who escaped lawful custody at the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court on 18 April of this year has been caught and was sentenced to spend six months in jail a day after his escape.
Manneh last week escaped from custody when he was brought to the court to answer various criminal charges. He did not stop there but also aided and abetted one Malick Conateh to also escape lawful custody.
Adducing the facts of the matter before magistrate Pa Harry Jammeh, the police prosecutor explained that Malick Conateh was early last week brought to the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court on 18 April 2007, but was later seen by some remand prisoners, attempting to effect his escape. He was later apprehended and arraigned before the court where he was sentenced to six-month imprisonment.
Conateh was however acquitted and discharged of the charge of escaping from lawful custody.
