Lawyer Antuman Gaye, Counsel for the five Senegalese Custom Officers, who were arrested early last month in the territorial waters of The Gambia for alleged importation of fire arms and being in possession of firearms, with life rounds, last Friday plead with the presiding Magistrate, Pa Harry Jammeh of the Kanifing Magistrate’s Court to give him more time to enable him produce some materials before the court.

In response, Lawyer Gaye said the material he intends to produce before the court is written in French and to translate them into English requires more time. He described the said materials as a determining factor, depending on whether the court has the jurisdiction over the case or not.

But, in her reply, the State Counsel, Marley Wood, told the court that the accused persons were arrested in the territorial waters of The Gambia, and, therefore the court has the jurisdiction to preside over the case.

Counsel Wood, however, said that she has no objection on the second application, and then demanded that all the witnesses be recalled. The five culprits are all Senegalese Customs officials, namely Serign Ngum, Pape Drammeh, Saidou Cham, Yaya Jobe and Alieu Cham.
