AMMREN to Launch Chapter in Gambia

Wednesday, September 26, 2007

Plans are at an advanced stage for the launching of an offshoot of Africa Media and Malaria Research Network (AMMREN) in The Gambia.

AMMREN is a sub-regional body that strives towards enabling journalists to report accurately on the malaria scourge as well as creating a common platform for them to interact with researchers on malaria.

Earlier this year, In-depth Network in Ghana organized a follow-up training programme for AMMREN members with a view to sharpening their reporting skills on malaria.

In a similar development, the parent body made a recommendation in Mombasa, Kenya that all member countries of AMMREN should come up with a chapter that would collaborate with other players working in the area of malaria.

Speaking in an interview with The Point, Mr. Pa Modou Faal, Coordinator of AMMREN-Gambia chapter, explained that all the structures for the chapter is now in place and that the chapter comprised members from the fourth estate, MRC, CIAM, NGOs and National Malaria Control Programme.

Mr. Faal revealed that AMMREN had, in the Mombasa meeting, adopted Alhaji Sir Dawda Kairaba Jawara, Nelson Mandela and Kofi Annan as patrons.
