It is confirmed that The Gambia will host the Under 15 cricket series to be organised by the International Cricket Council (ICC). The Championship, which will gather six nations from West and North Africa is scheduled to start from November 15 to 23, 2007, Johnny Gomez of the Gambia Cricket Council told Observer Sports yesterday.
“During the International Cricket Council’s Annual General Meeting held at South Africa last month, the delegates unanimously chose Gambia to be the better ground to host the six-nation series,” Gomez said.
“They backed their decision with the success of the north-west African cricket championship that was staged in Banjul in May 2007. The six nations that will participate in the November Championship include Morocco, Nigeria, Ghana, Sierra Leone, Mali and hosts Gambia.”
Johnny Gomez added that efforts are being made to put in place an under 15 team for the Gambia. “We have started a selection process in order to present a convincing team for the Championship. We will select players from both Upper Basic and Secondary Schools. We have lot of talents in the school system and we hope to gather a good team at the end of the selection process.”
