The University of The Gambia Islamic Association (UTGIA), will on Wednesday, October 18th, organise its annual Iftar (breaking of fast) for students.
Confirming this to Top Class, Abdou Wahab Fatty, President of the University of The Gambia Islamic Association, said this year’s Iftar will take the form of a conference, where renowned Islamic scholars will deliberate on issues pertaining to Islam and Muslims.
He said the organisation aspires to propagate the teachings of the Holy Qur’an and the Sunnah of the Holy Prophet Muhammad. He said the association has a membership of about 100 students and it’s affiliated to the Federation of Gambian Muslim Students Organisation. “We have been participating in Islamic conferences, lectures, and symposia. In fact, last year, we secured second position in a competition organised by FEGAMSO,” he explained.
He then urged students to attend the Iftar, noting that it will improve the understanding of students on Islamic studies and related issues. “It’s important for students to attend this event. It’s very vital, because it will senitise Muslims on their religious obligation and responsibilities,” Mr Fatty explained.
Mr Fatty then thanked sponsors- Africell, Africa Muslim Agency, and International Foundation for Construction and Development- for funding the Iftar.
