The Gambia Sports Journalists Association (GSJA) on Monday received from the Plymouth Banjul Challenge Grant Allocation Committee, a cheque for D54, 000 as part of the latter's support to the sporting association, a press release to the Sports Journalists Association revealed.
The donation, according to the release is meant to furnish the association’s proposed secretariat with computer, printer and scanner in complimenting the association efforts in the promotion of sports in the country. The release added that the donation was in response to an earlier application made by the association to the Plymouth Banjul Challengers in 2005.
Reacting to the gesture, Mr Namory Trawally, President of the Gambia Sports Journalist Association and the sports columnist of The Point Newspaper said: “This donation came at a time when it was most needed. It will go a long way to strengthen both the financial and the material capacity of the association.”
Mr Trawally added that the acquisition of an office complex will make the association’s work easier. He commended the Plymouth Banjul Challenge Grant Allocation Committee for accepting their proposal. He also commended Mr Ndinbalan and George Gomez of the National Olympic Committee for their support during the process. Mr Trawally assured the donors that the money will be put into good use by the association.
