The Association of Youths Against Malaria (TAYAM) on Tuesday 26th September concluded a three day training workshop on malaria prevention and procedures of collecting information on the use of ITNs. The training programme which was held at Faji Kunda brought together forty women from the different women groups in the area.

In his welcoming remarks, the co-ordinator of the programme responsible for the Kajikunda area who also doubles as the field officer, Mr Samba Y. Baldeh, challenged the participants to take the training seriously as it was aimed at widening the horizon of women on how to collect pictorial data on the number of people using nets. “ Thus the implementation of the activity also aims at attaining accurate figures on the number of people using ITNs”, he opined. He added that TAYAM will do everything humanly possible in order to kick malaria out of Western Division. This he noted can only be achieved with the cooperation of the community members.

For her part, Mrs Anna Hafna, Public Health Officer, observed that the training programme will go a long way in helping community members win the battle against malaria. She urged participants at the training to adhere to the basic preventive methods such as maintaining a clean environment.

Alhagie Jatta, a student of the University of The Gambia who also doubles as a Public Health Oficer told the participants some of the visible signs and symptoms of malaria and urged them to report to the nearest health centre as soon as such signs are observed.
