Motorola and the NFL to Introduce Innovative New Technology Solutions, Enhancing Game Communication
Motorola, Inc. (NYSE: MOT) and the National Football League (NFL) today announced a five-year contract extension through the 2011 season. Motorola, one of two sponsors that have an on-field presence, will work with the NFL to develop and implement game changing communication innovations.
Motorola will also expand from a national to a global NFL partner, enabling the two organizations to test technology solutions in NFL Europe League and extend its strong relationship internationally. The company will continue to be the NFL’s exclusive telecommunications hardware sponsor – both at the league level and with all 32 NFL teams.
“Building upon Motorola's eight-year relationship with the NFL, we believe that continuing to associate our brand, technology and products with one of the world’s most influential sports league creates a powerful marketing platform,” said Motorola Chairman and CEO, Ed Zander. “"The opportunity to work collaboratively with the NFL to institute a variety of innovative communications solutions within the game provides a compelling arena to demonstrate Motorola’s vision of Seamless Mobility."
“We are always looking at ways to improve our game through innovation, especially with a leading global company like Motorola,” said NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell. “We look forward to expanding our partnership to develop technology that will help our coaches and players on the field and enhance the enjoyment of the game for our fans.”
While agreement terms and specific technology details were not disclosed, Motorola’s leadership in MESH networks and wireless communication will be called upon to enhance various types of communications on the field. Originally developed for military applications, MESH networks are changing the way organizations communicate in a new world of Seamless Mobility. They provide encrypted, high-performance and scalable, mobile networking solutions.
