It has been confirmed from the Director of Corporate Communications of the North American Airlines,
Mr. Steve Forsyth, that his company will suspend operations in The Gambia by January 14th next year.
Speaking to The Point from his New York base in the United States yesterday, Mr. Forsyth explained that there was not sufficient passenger demand to sustain profitable service on a year round basis. “If the company does not make any profit, it does not make any sense to continue operations,” Mr. Forsyth said, adding that it is possible for the company to operate on a seasonal basis but, according to him, that option has not been determined yet.
He however expressed appreciation with both The Gambia and United States governments for their support.
It could be recalled that the North American Airlines started operations in The Gambia in June 2005, flying between The Gambia and North America, specifically Baltimore, USA.
