Mr. Omar Ndow, the Managing Director of the Gambia Telecommunications Company (Gamtel), was fired yesterday, reliable sources intimated to this paper.
Our sources added that Mr. Ndow has been replaced by Mr. Katim Touray who was hitherto working at the Public Utility Regulatory Authority (PURA).
Reacting to his appointment, Mr Touray had this to say to The Point last evening: “I see it as the biggest challenge of my life. I thank the president of the republic, Dr Alhagie Yahya Jammeh, for the confidence that he has on me for appointing me as Managing Director of Gamtel. All my strategies will be geared towards elevating Gamtel as top rated telecommunications company in Africa. I’m looking forward to working with the staff that I have known for many years.”
Mr. Touray, 36, began working with Gamtel in 1991, moving to PURA as Communications Officer for Telecommunications in 2005.
It could be recalled that the General Manager of Gamcel, Mr. Alagie Abdoulie Cham, was also removed from office, replaced by Pierre Cherry as acting General Manager.
