Interior stages football carnival

In a bid to bringing the various units in the Interior Department under one umbrella, a special football bonanza is currently in progress at the PIU play ground, Kanifing.

The tourney is name after Mr Ousman Sonko, the SoS for the Interior. The football gala gathers six different units in the Interior Department, including the Police, Immigration, Drug Enforcement Agency, Police Intervention Unit, Fire & Ambulance Services and Prisons. Each of the units presents both male and female teams to competed for the coveted trophies.

In the grand opening match on Friday, December 8, the Immigration side defeated the Police team 1-0 in the male category while the female Police team went ahead to edge out their Immigration counterpart by 2-1 score line.

In the Saturday’s fixtures, both Prison teams (Male & Female) were awarded the three points-two goals after their opponents, the Fire & Ambulance Service failed to turn up for their respective matches. On Sunday, December 10, Police Intervention United prevailed the better sides after trouncing Immigration by a 2-1 scoreline in a fiercely competed match.

Friday’s opening match was graced by Ousman Sonko, the SoS for Interior, security chiefs and other football enthusiasts.
