Following an appeal made by the Gambia Physically Disabled Sports Association Executive for help, the President of the Republic of the Gambia Dr. Jammeh recently donated D29, 000 to the association.
According to the President of GPDSA, Sulayman Colley, the donation came at the right time when the team is preparing for the forthcoming JAPHAT championship to be held in Mauritania next month.
Mr. Colley thanked President Jammeh for bailing them out. He also disclosed that Timbuktu bookshop donated D1000.
GPDS boss revealed that the art exhibition organised to raise funds for the Championship at the Alliance Franco- Gambienne has been extended to January 30th.
He added that the exhibition is organise by his association in collaboration with top Gambian artists.
Mr., Colley revealed that the JAPHAT Championship in Mauritania would cost them huge amount of money as the ticket for one person to Mauritania is at D27, 000.
“ We need to take five people to the Championship and we should also pay a registration fee of 500,000 CFA Francs,” he pointed out.
He took the opportunity to appeal to individuals, companies, Government and all stakeholders to patronise the exhibition by buying their art works.
He said this would them to improve the livelihoods of the disables.
